• Consecutive interpreting – the interpreter listens to the speaker and relays the message once the speaker has paused.
• Simultaneous interpreting – the interpreter relays the message more or less in real time, while the speaker is still speaking.

In terms of logistics, the scenarios are as follows:

• In-person: All participants are physically present in the same location.
• 100% remote: All participants – including the interpreters – are tuned in using video conferencing technology.
• Hybrid: Some participants are present in person, while others take part via video conferencing.

Technical equipment needed:

• Consecutive interpreting: The interpreters need the same equipment as the speakers, for example a microphone and a public address system
  
  
• Simultaneous interpreting:
  o In-person: Interpreter’s booth/console, headphones/receiver for the listeners,
      public address system etc.
  o 100% remote: Video conferencing platform with an interpreting function
      and/or an interpreting hub and/or an interpreting platform. 
      Commonly used platforms include Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, Interactio,
      Interprefy, Kudo and RSI-X, among others.
  o Hybrid: Depending on the configuration, this will involve a mix of the
      equipment needed for in-person and 100% remote interpreting as well as
      camera technology and potentially a camera control system

Translators also offer added value, as they are often the first to approach a text as a ‘consumer’ with a critical eye. As they translate the text, they may notice and query parts of a text that seem unclear or out of context.
